5 Year Old Fireman

This boy is 5 years old.  And it scares me just how quick he got there.  My oldest went fast but this kid I swear I am supposed to have an extra year or two before he hits these milestones.  This means he is now old enough to attend Kindergarten.  And like his big sister I still remember all the details of his birth like it was yesterday.  He is my child that has taught me all that I have yet to learn about being a parent.  He is loving and sweet, boisterous and loud, and yet so meek in his need to feel loved and accepted by those he loves deeply.  You know when this kid loves you.  It radiates from his eyes and is expressed in his actions.  Sometimes he loves a little too much.  He is Passionate and smart.  He is a mama's boy.  And I love him so very much.  This year he wanted to have a party with his friends and wanted red, strawberry everything, and fireman everything.  I asked him what he wanted to take to school for a treat for his birthday and tried to convince him to do chocolate or white cake but no he wanted strawberry cake with strawberry frosting.  I even tried to get him to let me put chocolate frosting on his cupcakes but he said "no", because Quote"I don't want people to think I like chocolate".  Funny thing is he likes chocolate but for some reason he doesn't want anyone to think he does.  He cracks me up.  So I made lots of cupcakes and froze half of them for his party.  Actually much easier than his sister who wants something different each time.  Some people might think I am crazy to be willing to do that but we don't do gifts for birthdays.  This is our gift to them.  As well as let them pick what they want for dinner and spend the day with them as well as going out to lunch with them unless their birthday is a Sunday.  Then we do it another day and they get to celebrate a couple days.

So for his party he wanted red licorice, strawberries, pretzels, ring pops, red kool-aid squeeze bottles, and cheese balls.   Oh and the Strawberry cupcakes with strawberry cream cheese frosting.  We originally planned to do the party outside but it was a windy day so we did most of it inside.
When everyone first arrived we let everyone color Fireman Sam Coloring Pages. We had 5 different characters to chose from.
We sang to him and let him blow out a candle.  The cupcakes had Fireman Sam toothpicks stuck in them.
We did a bean bag toss to try and put out the fire.
While they threw the bean bags they enjoyed the treats and made their goody bags.  They got to pick a thing of bubbles, a bouncy ball and, a water gun.  The water guns were originally going to be for a game where the boys were going to shoot water at little cups with a fire on them.  But due to the wind that didn't happen.
Then we came in a played Pin the Hat on Officer Steele.
Then we opened presents where he got a few firetrucks, gum with money, remote control truck, and a large coloring book with a pincher thing.
Then we had some time left.  With my daughter we ran out of time for her party.  For my son we had extra time.  I planned the same amount of activities but either it is their age or gender or both or my fear of running out of time that threw things off.  But luckily boys like to run around and play tag.  So they did that until their parents came and picked them up.

For his real birthday cake he wanted Surprise a Strawberry cake.  But he also wanted a fire engine cake so we didn't do the strawberry frosting and went with plain cream cheese frosting.  Thank you Betty Crocker for having great directions online.  However we couldn't find licorice wheels for the hose so I improvised and rolled out Tootsie rolls till they were a long rope and rolled it up into a hose.  Funny thing though the Tootsie rolls melt when exposed to the moisture from the cake over night.  Who knew.  For dinner he was very specific about what he wanted and would except no variation.  He wanted Hot dogs, Vanilla coated Strawberries(white chocolate), and Cheetos.  I tried to convince him to let me add more fruit but he would have none of it.  So that is what he had.  I figure it is his birthday and for one night a year I know he will eat everything on the table it is good.  Grandma and Grandpa came for dinner and brought him a gift.  They were so tired after their trip they came home from the night before.  It was very sweet of them to come still.  It made my son's day.  They gave him a kid shaving kit with a fake razor and a bubble blowing machine.  He loved them.
 Saying thank you.

Preschool Graduation

Our Little Guy graduated from his first year of Preschool.  He learned a lot there but he will go to a different Preschool next year.  They were 2 sweet older ladies just wanted more communication with them.

He was cute.  At one point it was his turn but he couldn't say anything because he had a booger in his nose and needed a tissue to take care of it before he would say his line.  Unfortunately I couldn't turn on the camera fast enough to get him saying his line.  SO I had him say it at the end just for me.  He is just too cute.  Hope you enjoy the pictures and videos.
Here he is with his teachers.

4 Year Old Little Fireman

I can't believe that my little guy is 4.  Once he was my little engineer and loved everything Train.  In fact that was only a couple months ago.  Then one day everything changed and he does not love trains anymore.  Oh he still likes Trains but Firetrucks and all things Fireman have taken over his obsession.  It all happened while watching a Sprout DVD on Netflix that had Thomas the Train on it and also this British Cartoon about Fireman Sam.  Now he lives to be a Fireman like Fireman Sam.  His birthday started by going to a Neighborhood Easter Egg hunt.  He had fun there.  But since that is Easter related I will add those pictures to my Easter post.  After the egg hunt he played at the park for a little bit and we had breakfast there.  After he was done playing we went to the store and then got lunch at McDonalds since he wanted Chicken nuggets for lunch.  Once we got home I hurried and baked his cake and left it to cool while we headed over to a fun Fire Station that is made for kids to go on tours.  Seriously this place has everything that a kid dreams a fire station should be.  Well except the rescue bell that my son noticed was missing.  But the kind Fireman that gave him a tour told him that they have the bell up high.  They gave him his own Jr badge and then gave all the kids a sticker badge and a toy hat.  It was very cute.  Needless to say my son was in Heaven.  After we finished the tour we played at the park on the Fire Station property.  Grandma and Grandpa kindly offered to take us out for dinner but my son wanted to have a big dinner at home and you can't have a big dinner at a restaurant. That is a small dinner.  So we had to stop at the store and pick up what he wanted to eat for dinner.  Then Grandma and Grandpa met us at the house and we barbecued hot dogs and chicken skewers, cut up Watermelon and cheese, opened a bag of Cheetos and Kettle Chips Mesquite flavored and had Sunny D to drink.  That is what he wanted.  I stretch this boy everyday of the year I figure he can have one meal a year that he loves with nothing I have to make him try.  Then we had cake that I quickly frosted while my husband cooked the meat.  I consider that day a success and he was so happy.  This boy melts my heart and drives me crazy daily and I have no idea what I would do with out him in my life. I hope he will always know how much I love him.

The border was supposed to be red but I didn't put enough red food coloring in it so it is pink.  That is ok his favorite part was the Fireman Sam picture I laminated and stuck on top anyways.
Talking the Fireman's ear off asking every question he could think of.  There are a lot of questions an aspiring 4 year Fireman can think of.
Touching the Fire Pole in shear Awe.
Picture in front of the Antique Firetruck on display.  Apparently they will use it for parades every year.
Checking out the hats on display.  These are hats this station has used over the years.
It is fun to see the progression.

First Day of School 2012

Yes I am late doing this and I have lots to catch up on.  Please be patient with me while I try to catch up.  As soon as I get through the last 5 months I should keep up much better.  I now have a computer to blog on that is open for my unlimited use.  YAY!

On their first day it was a little crazy.  Our daughters orientation finished as our sons orientation was beginning.  So luckily my husband took the morning off and helped me make sure we were able to support both of them.  It made my son a little sad that he had to wait longer than his sister to go to school.

All happy and excited to go to school
Here he is sad because his sister got to leave before him to go to school.  So he didn't want to show off his backpack.
During orientation the kids in our daughters class got to decorate a cupcake.  Something that all the kids were very happy about.
His preschool had fun little footprints for the kids to follow so they could know how to get to the classroom.  He gets to go with his best friend next door and has lots of fun everyday.

Soccer

So our son seemed to really want to have his own thing like his sister had dance.  There really isn't much for a 3 year old little guy to do though.  However our city did have soccer for 3 year old and we thought we would give it a try.  Not really the sports fanatic here but figured we would give it a try.  Well the first two games one of which his grandparents came to see were spent trying to push him to go play, daddy running with him on the field or daddy chasing him trying to keep him from rolling down the hill at the end of the field on the the other side of one of the goals.  After that game we were successful getting him on the field trying to kick the ball by bribing him with a bite of frosty regularly through the game if he tried to kick the ball.  Basically we decided at this point soccer is not his thing.  We will see if he want to play later but not sure we are going to sign him up till he seems to show more interest.  Poor guy would try so hard and would get so frustrated every time someone took the ball away from him when he was trying to kick it.  Which would result in tears.  Then the last game he kept yelling as he ran onto the field "stop those kids".  It was almost a battle cry.  He wanted to be the one to own that ball and those kids kept taking it from him.  He was so heart broken when those kids would let him keep the ball.  So the 6 week season mercifully came to an end and all of us including my son breathed a sigh of relief.  Here are a couple pictures and videos.

Daddy hold my hand
No you can't play on the hill till the game is over.
A couple cute videos.  The first one is a rare moment of him with the ball.  The second one Shows them tackling the ball.  Maybe when he is old enough we should try football......

3 Year Old Little Man

He is 3 now. He is a big tease. If you say I love you to him he always responds love me with a smile. He call everyone he loves his best friend and gives the best cuddles. And when he is sad crying he will tell you in case you didn't know. He still loves trains and in the words of my husband, "He lives to own every train in the continental US". And besides trains you will find him playing with anything that has wheels. He longs to go to school with his big sister and follows her around when she is home. He no longer needs any services to help him with sensory issues and in the last few months has become a much calmer kid. He is our little man and we have no idea what we would ever do without him.

Here he is patiently waiting to blow out his candle.
Blowing out the candle
Here is three years old and playing with his trucks he got from Grandma, Grandpa, and Great Grandma. Every night for a week he would park them in the boxes they came in and sleep on the floor surrounded by them. He just wanted to be close to them.
The smaller fancy truck under his leg was from Great Grandma. She sent it in the mail and he patiently waited till his birthday to open his present from her. When he came into our room that morning I said Happy Birthday and the first thing out of his mouth with a big smile was open my present. He called it his firefighter truck and just loved playing with it all day. The Firefighter truck was from Grandma and Grandpa and only a few days earlier while looking through the store he became attached to a firetruck that he wanted so bad. We had to leave it there but he cried for 20 minutes straight. I think Grandma and Grandpa must have just known that was what he wanted.

My Train! Happy Birthday Boy!

Last month we celebrated this handsome little boy's birthday. He went with me to the store since I had no luck finding a train for the top of his cake before his birthday. I had to go to several stores to find this toy. As it turned out it was small enough and within the budget for a decoration atop a cake. Plus he had a new favorite toy to play with. He held this toy package and all till he fell asleep to take his nap. If anyone looked at it funny he held it to his chest tight and said my train. He hoped that I would take it out of the packaging so he could play with it but mommy wanted it to stay clean inside it's package. Once he fell asleep holding onto it, I had to sneak it away from his grasp, open it, wash it, and hide it till I was done with his cake. Then before he woke up I hid his cake toy topper and all in the deep freezer till a hour before we had cake. Then once he saw the cake he kept trying to (we thought) get into the cake. So we eventually sang to him and went to take the toy off to wash it and he jumped down from his chair super happy saying,"YAY! YAY! YAY"! and waited for daddy to hand him his toy. Then you would think this was where he would come back to the table to get cake. No! He then took his train and track and played with that while everyone else ate his cake. Then only after he was sufficiently satisfied playing with his new train, was when he sat at the table to eat his cake. He can be very stubborn but he is a very cute boy. He is busy and into everything. He tries to do everything on his own and is a normal 2 year old boy.
The only picture I could get of him that had most of his face in the picture.
Playing with his train and track.
Finally eating cake.
Here is a few angles of the cake.
